‘The 2020 Delhi Riots and Shaheen Bagh Protests’
The Anti CAA +NRC protests are an important moment in India's history. Multiple waves of bloodshed, property destruction, and rioting began on 23 February in North East Delhi.
A sit-in peaceful protest led by women was organized at Shaheen Bagh in response to the passage of the Citizenship Amendment Act. During the bitterly cold December month more than 1,00,000 people gathered in support of the protest. Women accompanied by their young children sat on carpets on the road all day, while men stood on the sides. Protesters listened to speakers talk about secularism and the constitution, and how the government was threatening to undermine both.
